Partial MD Interview

The October MD is a good read with Steve Jordan on the cover and an interview with Anthony Jackson. I enjoy the bass on drums interviews.

Jordan really lays down some core drum wisdom as a very active player and producer.

Jackson discusses some of the greats (Weckl, Vinnie, Buddy)...and as usual you can guess who he thinks is the best drummer out there...even calls him his "archtype"--a drummer, not another bass player! WOW!

Anybody have Michal Urbaniak's Fusion III?

I just got my issue yesterday. It is indeed a good read. Probably the best MD has put out in a long time. I knew Jordan had played on some fusion stuff but didn't know how much. His relationship with Stevie Wonder and how much Stevie was into fusion is eye opening. I've always thought of 'Contusion' from 'Songs in the Key of Life' as a cool fusion tune. Kinda Return to Forever-ish. Jordan was present during a part of those sessions.

I learned a lot from the Randy Jackson article as well. Didn't know he played with Buddy. Nice comments.

Another thing that interested me was the Tama ad with Harvey Mason. I know guys make changes all of the time but that one just surprised me.

the most entertaining read for me was the column written by jon wurster called 'life on the road'. i haven't laughed that hard while reading an md article in a long time. very insightful and sooooo true!

i also thought glen kotche's little blurb on the do-it-yourself column was great. i mean, why hasn't any percussion co. thought of this yet? ya know their prolly clamoring to get a patent on that one! [img]smile.gif[/img]

and of course, the aforementioned interviews were great, too! i thought jake hannah's opinion on today's drummers was refreshing.
